    These are awarded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia to support students of developing countries, primarily the countries located in the Indo-pacific region seeking undergraduate and postgraduate education (except flying aircraft, nuclear technology, or military training) at the participating Australian Universities and TAFE institutes.

    Value & Duration

    These scholarships are offered for a whole duration of study until students complete their degrees, including any preparatory training. The scholarships cover:

    • Complete tuition fee
    • Economy class return airfare- to and from Australia via the most direct route
    • One-time expenses for the establishment, which includes accommodation, textbooks, and study material expenses.
    • Basic living expenses (offered fortnightly)
    • Expenses to attend Introductory Academic Program (IAP)
    • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) covering basic health expenses during the course of study.
    • Pre-course English (PCE) fees

    About

    Value & Duration

    With the help of this program, tertiary institutions in Australia will be allowed to apply for scholarships worth $15000 per student, per year.

    Eligibility

    Students cannot apply directly for this financial aid. It’s the regional tertiary institutions in Australia who actually need to prove their institutions’ eligibility to make the aid available to deserving students. To prove its eligibility, an institution should be:

    • A tertiary Australian institution located in regional areas only.
    • Actively registered under the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) in order to apply for the scholarship for international students.

    Once the list of qualifying institutions is released (mostly in early October), students can apply directly for 2021 scholarships by sending an application to the institution they are enrolled in.

    Interested institutions need to submit proofs explaining:

    • The nature of scholarships that will be offered, i.e., based on the level and field of study.

  3. Australian Government Research Training Program

    About

    The research training program came into existence on January 1, 2017, by replacing the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships program.     Value & Duration

    The scholarship program primarily covers full tuition fees, living expenses, and other additional expenses such as relocation cost to undertake the research work, cost of printing thesis and academic publication costs, and health cover costs for scholarship recipients and their dependents.

    Students pursuing postgraduate research programs can avail of the benefits of the scholarship program for a duration of 2 years for full-time programs and 4 years for part-time programs, while doctoral students can avail the benefits for a maximum of 3-4 years.

    Eligibility

    In order to be eligible for this scholarship program, a student should:

    • Be a domestic student or an overseas student enrolled in an accredited higher degree research program at an Australian HEP.
    • Not be availing any additional funding from any other source that is equivalent to the scholarship amount of this program.
    • Not be gaining income from any other source for covering the cost of living which is 75% higher than the rate of the stipend amount.

  4. Australia APEC Women in Research Fellowships

    About

    This fellowship scheme has been introduced to support meritorious female researchers hailing from APEC countries. This will help in promoting women’s economic development in APEC countries and encourage more women to participate in quality research work.

    Value & Duration

    The scholarship primarily covers the travel allowance of AU$3000 for Asian students and AU$4,500 for South-American students; establishment allowance of AU$2000; monthly stipend of AU$3000; and monthly family allowance of AU$1200, if applicable.

    The scholarship program mainly sponsors the research projects ranging between the duration of 1 and 4 months. Every academic year, 10 such scholarships are granted to the eligible students.

    Eligibility

    Students are eligible to be a recipient of this scholarship if they are:

    • Female citizens or permanent residents of one of the APEC countries, which include Chile, the People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam.
    • Not holding the citizenship of Australia
    • Holding a doctoral degree conferred within 2020.
    • Able to provide all the documents in English or translated into English
    • Not going to undertake any research work leading to a formal degree between the month of July and December of the year they will be receiving this scholarship
    • Able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language by providing one of the English language test proofs.

    Application Requirements

    While applying for the scholarship, students need to provide:

    • Duly filled application form
    • Completed ‘Applicant Sponsor Form’
    • A copy of citizenship or permanent residency
    • Academic transcripts
    • 2 letters of recommendation
    • Proof of support and language suitability from the host institute. This can be submitted in the form of a letter signed by the host, supporting a student’s language suitability.
    • Research Curriculum Vitae and a list of previous research publications

    Key Dates

    Usually the deadline falls in the second week of April, however, this year nothing has been announced about the deadline as the scholarship program will not be offered in the year 2020.

    Application is made by sending a completed application form supplemented with all the supporting documents to the Australian APEC study center with the help of an email, fax, or by post.
